About Emily
I’m a student at Nottingham Trent University, studying Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, and dogs have always been a huge part of my life, especially when it comes to managing my anxiety. Being a student can be stressful, and sometimes the pressure of studying and keeping up with everything gets overwhelming. That’s where dogs come in—they’re like my personal little therapists.
Whenever I’m feeling anxious, whether it’s about exams or just the general stress of uni life, spending time with dogs makes a world of difference. There’s something so calming about their company; they don’t judge, they don’t rush you—they’re just there, offering unconditional love and support. Taking a break to walk a dog or just sit with one instantly helps me relax and feel more grounded.
For me, dogs aren’t just pets—they’re a source of comfort and therapy. They remind me to slow down, breathe, and take things one step at a time. They help me keep my anxiety in check and make studying a little less daunting, reminding me of the importance of emotional support, which ties back to my passion for helping others in my field of study.
When caring for a dog during a sitting, my top priority is making sure they feel safe, happy, and well-loved. I take the time to understand each dog’s unique needs, whether it's sticking to their daily routine, administering medication, or simply giving them the attention they crave. I’m comfortable with any breed, from tiny Chihuahuas to larger dogs like German Shepherds, and I always adapt my approach to suit the dog's personality and energy level.
I make sure each dog gets plenty of exercise, playtime, and mental stimulation to keep them engaged and content. Whether it’s long walks, playing fetch, or just a quiet cuddle session, I tailor my care to what makes them happiest. I’m also mindful of any special dietary needs, feeding schedules, or behavioral quirks, ensuring I maintain consistency while keeping things fun and relaxed.
My availability is very flexible, making it easy for me to accommodate different schedules, whether it’s a quick drop-in, a full day of care, or overnight stays. I understand how important it is for pet owners to know their furry friends are in good hands, and I’m committed to providing a caring, attentive, and comfortable experience for every dog I look after.
I have a Cockapoo named Rosie, and she’s been a huge part of my life, especially in helping me understand the bond between humans and dogs. Rosie is full of energy, always up for a cuddle, and her playful personality lights up any room. From training her as a puppy to managing her daily care, living with Rosie has taught me a lot about patience, responsibility, and the deep comfort pets can bring. She’s not just a pet; she’s a constant source of joy and support.
Through my course in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, I’ve also been introduced to pet therapy, which has deepened my appreciation for how animals, especially dogs, can support emotional well-being. I’ve learned how therapy dogs are used to provide comfort and reduce anxiety in various settings, and I’ve seen firsthand the calming effects they can have. This experience has inspired me to bring that same sense of calm and companionship into my pet-sitting. My time with Rosie, along with my knowledge of pet therapy, helps me create a nurturing and supportive environment for any dog I look after, ensuring they feel safe, loved, and completely understood.
For walking spots in Nottingham, I like these these areas to walk:
Wollaton Park: A large, scenic park with open fields, woodlands, and a lake, providing plenty of space for dogs to roam and explore.
Nottingham University Park: A tranquil park with well-maintained walking paths and lovely green spaces, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
Forest Recreation Ground: Offers spacious open areas and is conveniently located for easy access. It's great for both casual walks and playtime.
Attenborough Nature Reserve: A bit further out, but ideal for nature walks with various trails and wetlands, offering a more rugged, natural setting.
Highfields Park: Located near the university, this park has beautiful gardens, lakes, and wide paths, making it a great spot for a relaxing walk.
