Labrador Retrievers are the favourite dog choice for families in the UK. Here’s everything you need to know about this lovely breed.

Labrador Retrievers, or “Labs”:

  • Labrador Retrievers are originally from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada, where the breed was initially used to help fishermen.
  • Male Labradors are generally 22-24 inches tall , while females are slightly smaller at about 21-23 inches.
  • Labrador Retrievers can come in three colours: black, golden and chocolate. Lab mixes might have other markings such as white spots on their chest or their ears.
  • Labrador Retrievers are widely acknowledged as intelligent dogs, with black Labs being hailed as the smartest.
  • Labrador Retrievers are part of the “Sporting” of dogs. (There are 7 types: Herding, Sporting, Non-Sporting, Working, Hounds, Terriers, and Toy).
  • Labrador Retrievers are amazing swimmers; they’re the only dog breed that have webbed feet!!
  • Not only are Labrador Retrievers good family dogs, their size and intelligence makes them fantastic police and rescue dogs.
